in diplotene, dissolution of synaptonemal complex begins so that the homologous chromosomes start separating . but they are found attached at the regions of crossing over and these X shaped structures are called chiasmata. in oocytes of vertebrates,this phase gets suspended from months to years.
where as in diakinesis, the chiasmata brakes therefore now they are only seen only at the ends and this is known as terminalisation.
during diakinesis there is disappearance of nuclear membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, nucleolus and Golgi bodies and there is formation of meiotic spindle it represents the end of prophase I
