Difference:
Displacement Reaction: It is a reaction where a more reactive metal or non-metal replaces a less reactive metal or non-metal from its salt solution.
Double Displacement Reaction: It is a reaction where an exchange of ions takes place.
General Form:
Displacement Reaction: A + BC ----------> AC + B, where A is more reactive than B.
Double Displacement Reaction: A⁺B⁻ + C⁺D⁻ ----------> A⁺D⁻ + C⁺B⁻
Examples:
Displacement Reaction:
Fe + CuSO₄ ----------> FeSO₄ + Cu
2Na + MgCl₂ ----------> 2NaCl + Mg
2Al + 3CuCl₂ ---------> 2AlCl₃ + 3Cu
Double Displacement Reaction:
BaI₂ + K₂SO₄ ------------> 2KI + BaSO₄
2NaCl + MgSO₄ -------------> Na₂SO₄ + MgCl₂
CaBr₂ + Na₂CO₃ -----------> CaCO₃ + 2NaBr
