What is difference between eigen value and singular values?

For symmetric and hermition matrices, the eigenvalues and singular values are obviously closely related. A nonnegative eigenvalue ,wave length >0, is also a singular value, 0 = wave length, the corresponding vectors are equal to each other, U=X......One of the corresponding singular vector is the negative of the other, U=-V=X.
