The difference between excretion and secretion is -

  • Excretion is a process of eliminating metabolic waste from the body whereas Secretion is a process by which material produced inside the cell or gland is displaced to the space present outside the cell.
  • Excretion is a passive process whereas secretion is an active process.
  • Excretion occurs in the form of tears, sweat, urine and carbon dioxide whereas secretion occurs in the form of saliva, hormones or enzymes.
  • Excretory organs include lungs, gall bladder, skin, kidneys etc.. whereas secretory organs include various glands such as salivary glands etc...
  • Both processes are important for the body as they help in maintaining the homeostasis of the body.
