An atom can be an ion, but not all ionsare atoms. The difference between anatom and an ion has to do with net electrical charge. An ion is a particle or collection of particles with a net positive or negative charge. ... A stableatom contains the same number of electrons as protons and no net charge.....hope so right

IONS
When atoms, group of atoms or molecules lose or gain electrons, they become charged. These charged species are known as ions. These can be negatively or positively charged, thus can be categorized into two groups
1. Cations - the positively charged ions.
2. Anions - the negatively charged ions
Atoms in solution generally exist in the form of ions.
ATOMS
Atoms are the smallest particles of an element which may or may not have independent existence but take part in a chemical reaction. These are the building blocks of all matter.
Size of atoms are very small and their radius is measured in nanometers.
Hydrogen atom is the smallest atom and it's radius is 0.1nm
Hope that helps ☺☺
