Longitudinal Waves: Displacement of the medium is parallel to the direction of propagation of the wave

Transverse Waves: Displacement of the medium is perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the wave.

➡️ LONGITUDINAL = In these waves , displacement of particles of the medium is in the direction of propagation of the wave .

➡️ These waves travel in the form of Compression and Rarefactions is called wavelength.

➡️ The distance between two consecutive Compression or Rarefactions is called wavelength.

➡️ These wave can propagate in solid , liquid and gas .

➡️ TRANSVERSE = In these , displacement of particles of medium is at right angle to the direction of propagation of the wave .

➡️ These waves travel in the form of crests and troughs.

➡️ The distance between two consecutive crests and troughs is called wavelength.

➡️ These waves can propagate only in solids or on the surface of liquids .
