what is difference between medium and vacuum in science

When there is no medium there is vacuum.
And wave and heat requires medium but light dont.

medium is what in which particles and their resistance occur but in vacuum there is no resistance or friction due to any particles
sound waves require medium but light can travel both in medium and vacuum
