Main difference between mitosis and meiosis is that in meiosis reduction of chromosomes occurs which is absent in mitosis

Mitosis:-

1.division occurs in somatic cells
2.occurs in both sexually and asexually reproducing animals
3.synapsis of chromosomes is absent as crossing over does not takes place

meiosis:-
1.division occurs in Germ cells
2.occurs in sexually reproducing organisms
3.crossing over takes place between HOMOLOGOUS CHROMOSOMES this is the reason why generation from meiosis are different from parents..

There are several differences between mitosis and meiosis but these are said to be important while explaining the differences...

Amulyapindi: Yeah
Amulyapindi: Meiosis
Amulyapindi: Occurs in Germ cells
Amulyapindi: Nucleus divides twice
Amulyapindi: Four daughter cells are formed
Amulyapindi: Daughter cells are haploid
Amulyapindi: Crossing over in chromosomes
Amulyapindi: Pairing of homologous chromosomes
GitanjaliRanjan: I can't understand
GitanjaliRanjan: What is mitotic cell division
