what is difference between nitrate and nitrite

the difference is both contains nitrogen and oxygen but no of oxygen is different.
they contains one atom of nitrogen.
the nitrate have three atoms of oxygen but nitride have only two.

both nitrate and nitrite molecule contain one nitrogen atom but nitrate have three atoms of oxygen and nitrite have only two atoms of oxygen
