Explanation:

Here are the following differences between oxidation and reduction:-

OXIDATION:-

Gain of oxygen:- The gain of oxygen leads to oxidation. Oxygen being highly electronegative would try and remove electron from the atom it is bound to.

Loss of hydrogen:- The loss loss of hydrogen is termed as oxidation. Removal of hydrogen means that the atom it is bound to will undergo oxidation from negative to positive.

Increase in oxidation number:- The increases in oxidation number is also termed as oxidation.

Loss of electron:- The loss of electron also leads to oxidation. This is because if the metal loses electron it will have more protons than electrons. Hence the positive charge would increase and the oxidation state would increase.

REDUCTION:-

Removal of oxygen:- The removal of oxygen leads to reduction. This is because loss of high electronegative element reduces the oxidation number which eventually leads to reduction.

Gain of hydrogen:- The gain of hydrogen is also termed as reduction. The gain of hydrogen reduced the oxidation number eventually leading to reduction.

Reduction in oxidation number:- Reduction in oxidation number is reduction.

Gain of electron:- The gain of electron is also reduction. This is because gaining of electron means building up the negative charge which means reduction.

Answer:

Oxidation:

On introducing two molecules to each other, one molecule loses an electron. This reaction is called oxidation. Electrons are lost. Removal of hydrogen group. Adding oxygen. Reaction release energy. Electrons are released in the surrounding. Oxidation state increases. Occurs in reducing agents. Example for reducing agent is metal.

Reduction:

On introducing two molecules to each other, one molecule gains an electron. This reaction is called reduction. Electrons are gained. Addition of hydrogen group. Removal of oxygen. Reaction stores energy. Electrons are obtained from the surrounding. Oxidation state decreases. Occurs in oxidizing agents. Examples of Oxidizing agent are ozone, bleach, peroxide etc
