total distance covered by a body called distance and the shortest distance covered by a body called displacement

Differences:
Distance is Scalar quantity , while displacement is vector
Displacement is distance with direction
As a result, displacement can never be greater than distance
Velocity is always in a straight line, while distsnce if graphed , may even go three dimensional.
Distance covered over unit time is speed. Displacement over unit time is velocity.
