Answer:

A peninsula is a piece of land which protrudes into a body of water and borders on the majority of its side to the water. The word peninsula comes from Latin paeninsula and means paene “almost” and insula “island”. This word in certain European languages are calques of this Latin word.A plateau is an area of highland with flat terrain, so this is very different from the peninsula.
