Hey friend!
Various means diversing many things of different kind which can be distinguished. But whereas several means many more than two of a kind. That why we define various as several of distinguished kinds.

Several refers to more than two in number or kind.Various refers to more than two as well, but definitely different in kind.
Example:
I placed the flowers in several vases.(The vases maybe similar in kind)
I placed the flowers in various vases.(The vases are definitely different in kind)
