Dear student,

The preposition 'for' is used to indicate a time span.

For example,

I have been watching TV for two hours."Two hours" is a specific time span. Hence, we use the preposition 'for'.

'Since' is used to indicate the beginning of a specified time period that continues up to the present.

For example,

I have not seen you since 2006.The time span referred to, in this sentence, starts at 2006 and is still continuing. Hence, 'since' has been used.Regards
