pentane with the molecular formula c5h12. there are three isomers possible when all the five carbon atoms are aligned in a linear fashion. the isomer is called an pentane it's IUPAC name is pentane. when a methyl group shifts and attaches itself to the second or the third carbon atom it forms isopentane.
