A cell is a single electrochemical unit that cannot be broken down into smaller components. They come is various shapes and sizes :1.5 V primary cells come as, AA, AAA, C, D cells and 9 V design; while secondary cells of 1.2 V comes as AA, AAA size NiMH, NiCd cells and 18650 and 27300 type Li-ion cells or 3.7 V cuboidal cells.

A battery is a series and/or parallel combination of such cells. Alternate name for a battery can be battery pack. These have terminal voltages in excess of 600 V DC. You can find them in car starters, electric car battery packs, your mobile or laptop and whatsoever portable, rechargeable gadget you use.
