homogenous means substances of the same type and heterogenous means substances of different type.
In homogenous mixtures constituents are mixed uniformly whereas in heterogeneous mixtures different constituents are not mixed uniformly. Homogenous mixtures cannot have physically distinctive parts but heterogeneous mixtures have physically distinctive parts.
