A tap root is one thick central root, like a carrot. There are often root hairs on the exterior, but they are very fine.
A fibrous root does not have one main root, but rather a network of roots. This is the kind of root most trees have that looks like a big tangly mess of roots. When people (especially kids) draw roots, this is usually what they draw. This type of root helps hold the plant into the soil better because it doesn’t just go in one direction.

fibrous roots grow from the main stem of the plant and does not have a primary root like the taproot. They grow downward and outward, with repeating branches to form a mass of small roots.Dicots and monocots are the two classes of flowering plants. The majority of taproot systems are composed of dicots and conifers.
