The difference between haloalkanes and haloarenes is thathaloalkanes are derived from alkanes (open chain hydrocarbons) while haloarenes are derived from aromatic hydrocarbons (hydrocarbons with sigma bonds and delocalized pi electronsbetween carbon atoms forming rings)
