What is diffusion?

The intermixing of particles of two different substances on their own is called diffusion. The following example will make it clear...

Put a drop of red ink in a glass beaker half filled with water. What do you observe? You will find that the red ink slowly mixes and the water becomes red in colour without even stirring. This happens because the particles of ink spread and mix with water. It is beacuse the particles of red ink continuously bombarded by the invisible particles of water due to Brownian Movement. The mixing of particles of two substances into each other uniformly is called diffusion.

Hope it helps uh!
