Dissolved substances have to pass through the cell membrane to get into or out of a cell is called diffusion.

Example.- use simple diffusion to travel in and out of the cell membrane are water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, ethanol and urea. They pass directly through the cell membrane without energy along the concentration gradient.

the process in which two gases or liquids mix together uniformly with out any external agents is known as diffusion.


example:-Take three crystals of potassium permagnet and put it in 200 ml of water. We will observe that the colour of water slowly changes to purple colour. As potassium permagnet colour is purple. So from this we conclude the example of diffusion as they both mix together with out any external stirring.

⊙Actually water molecules have spaces between them and when potassium permagnet crystal is put into it it dissolves inside the water to form fine particles and take the spaces between the particles of water and thus diffusion occurs.

⊙Please note that diffussion rate is faster when temperature is more.
