Diffusion occurs in gases, liquids and solids. Diffusion is fastest in gases and slowest in solids. The rate of diffusion increases on increasing the temperature of the diffusing

Explanation:

A physical process where molecules of a matter or substance move from an area of high concentration to low concentration, that is, molecules spread away is known as diffusion.

The less is the force of attraction between the molecules, the more easily they can spread from one place to another. Hence, more will be the rate of diffusion. The strong is the force of attraction between the molecules, the more difficultly molecules will face in moving from one place to another. Hence, less will be the rate of diffusion.

In gaseous state of matter, molecules are loosely held and easily move from one place to another. Therefore, they have maximum rate of diffusion.
