Hi friend,

Digestion is the process of breakdown of food into smaller particles till the nutrients from the food are absorbed by the body. First process in digestion is when food is mixed up with saliva. Mixing of food in saliva will form bocus which is then go to stomach through esophagus. Digestive system has LIVER, GALLBLADER, PANCREAS. This system helps in digesting food.

Is this much sufficient?

Hope it helps....
If not pls Comment I will explain by tomorrow :(.

Kuldeepnehra: Elaborate the Digestion process....many digestive enzymes..carbohydrase,proteases, pancreatic lipase etc.etc......
Kuldeepnehra: Names of digestive organs is not the explanation of Digestion...

                                       The Digestion Process

What is digestion ?

- The process of breaking down large food particles into smaller soluble particles that can be absorbed and then used for obtaining energy is termed as digestion.

What are the organs and glands involved in digestion process?

- The organs are :-
1) Buccal Cavity (Mouth)
2) Esophagus (Food pipe)
3) Stomach
4) Small Intestine (duodenum, jejuneum, illeum)
5) Large Intestine (caecum, colon, rectum)
6) Anus

Associated Glands -
1) Salivary glands
2) Pancreas
3) Liver
4
) Gastric Glands
5
) Intestinal glands

Detailed Process of Digestion

- Complex food is taken through mouth. It is thoroughly chewed in the buccal cavity with the help of teeth and mixed with saliva.Saliva contains an enzyme salivary amylase/Ptylin that acts on starch and converts to maltose .

- The food bolus enters into stomach through esophagus by regular contraction and relaxation of the wall muscles. This movement is called Peristalsis.

- The food reaches the stomach, gastric juice is secreted from gastric gland.Gastric juice contains HCl, pepsin enzyme, mucus.

HCl - It makes the medium acidic for the action of enzyme pepsin and kills the germs if present in food

Pepsin - It acts on proteins and converts it into peptones and proteases

Mucus - It protects the inner lining of the stomach from action of acid.

- Now the food is in the form of chyme; it enters the small intestine through pyloric sphincter present at the end of stomach.

- When the food reaches small intestine, bile juice is secreted from liver that makes the medium alkaline and also breaks down larger fat globules into smaller fat globules. This process is called 'Emulsification of Fat'.

- Then pancreatic juice is secreted from pancreatic gland that contains enzymes Trypsin, Lipase, Pancreatic Amylase.

1. Trypsin --It converts peptones and proteases into amino acids
2. Lipase -- It converts smaller fat globules into fatty acids and glycerol.
3. Pancreatic Amylase --  It converts Maltose to glucose.

- Now,intestinal juice is secreted that assists pancreatic enzymes to complete the digestion of food.

- The digested food is absorbed in villi present in inner wall of the small intestine.

-The undigested food enters large intestine, the villi present in large intestine absorbs much of the water leaving behind semi solid faeces.

- This semi solid faeces passes through rectum is removed out of the body through anus that is regulated by anal sphincter.

Hope This Helps You!
