Diakinesis is the final stage of prophase I. In human and other mammalian ootidogenesis, the cell (i.e. primary oocyte) is in the arrested state (called dictyate) prior to diakinesis.

Explanation:

The morphological changes that occur during homolog pairing of non-sister chromatids are the basis for dividing meiotic prophase into five sequential stages—leptotene, zygotene, pachytene, diplotene, and diakinesis.

At the diplotene stage, one can see the individual cross-over events between non-sister chromatids because the synaptonemal complex gets disassembled. This process is followed by the process of segregation, and this is demarcated as the stage of ‘DIAKINESIS’.
