It is the product of charge on two atoms(q) and the distance between them(d). It is a vector quantity and is denoted bu 'mu'
i.e. 'mu' = q X d

whenever tho equally charged particles interact with each other they produces a moment called dipole moment....given by product of either charge and dist between the particles
