What is Direct and indirect speech and tell the difference.

Direct speech describes when something is being repeated exactly as it was – usually in between a pair of inverted commas. For example: Shetold me, “I'll come home by 10pm.” ... An obvious difference is that withindirect speech, you won't use inverted commas.

* In this the words are put in quotation marks.

* Ex :- She said, "I shall read now".

2. He said to her, "what is the matter?"

3. She said, "I am going to watch a movie."

# Indirect speech is reporting what somebody said.

* In this the words are not put on quotation marks.

* Ex :- She said that she would read then.

2. He enquired from her what the matter was.

3. She said that she was going to watch a movie.
