Direct speech is said in First person whilst indirect speech is when you say that in third person.

The present tense changes to past tense.

Example :

Direct speech -

Ram said, "I'm going to the market."

Indirect speech -

Ram told that he was going to the market.

Answer:

  • There are two main ways of reporting.

  • These are direct speech and indirect or reported speech.

  • When we use direct speech, we quote the actual word spoken by a person.

  • In writing, this is shown within quotation marks.

For example,

" I am so happy to see you again" said Ms.Reeta.

  • When we use indirect speech, we do not quote the actual words spoken by a person.

  • But convey their meaning in our own words.

  • The connector that is used to introduce indirect words.

For example,

Varsha said that the cake was delicious.
