• Disaster can be categorised into various types on the basis of speed or cause. Based on speed it is of two types:-

1. Slow onset disaster.
2. Rapid onset disaster.

• Based on cause / origin it can be classified into two types:-

1. Natural disasters.
2. Human - Induced disasters.
