What is dispersion of light?

the phenomenon by which white light on passing through a prism gets split into 7 colours I.e., VIBGYOR is known as dispersion

The normal light rays which is mostly white in colour,is made out of 7 independent colour rays.

And when the white coloured light rays passes through different mediums,the seven colour rays become separated from each other.

Then a light spectrum is created with the colour sequence known as the VIBGYOR.

This separation of the white coloured rays ,is known as the dispersion.
