what is dispersion of light? explain with the help of diagram
Answers
It is a mixture of lights of seven main colours. On refraction, lights of different colours bend by different amounts. So, when light made up of different colours gets refracted, its components tend to separate, or split. The splitting of light into its component colours on refraction is called dispersion of light.
Dispersion of white light is defined as splitting of white light into seven constituent colours when passed through the prism. When white light is passed through a glass prism it splits into its spectrum of colours (in order violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red) and this process of white light splitting into its constituent colours is termed as dispersion.
