Displacement:

The shortest distance from the initial position to the final position of the body, is the magnitude of displacement and its direction is from the initial position to the final position. It is a vector quantity. The S.I. unit of displacement is metre(m) and the C.G.S. unit is centimetre(cm).

The displacement being a vector quantity,is representated by a straight line with an arrow, using a convenient scale. The tip of arrow on the straight line represent the direction while the length of the straight line on proper scale represent its magnitude.
