the shortest distance between the initial and final position of a body is called displacement
it's unit is metre and specified with directions
so it is a vector quantity
it can be found by multiplying the velocity with time
in case of velocity time graph the area under the graph is the displacement

displacement can be positive negative or zero
displacement is always less than or equal to the distance

Displacement of a body is the change in the position of the body .

Well this does not seem the correct definition because the change in position may differ with respect to the observer .

So the correct definition is :

Displacement is the shortest distance between the final position and the initial position of the body .

Velocity is the change in displacement in a certain time while acceleration is the change in velocity with respect to time .

The displacement can be calculated from the initial position and the final position of the body .

The initial position is the position where the body was originally .

The final position is the position of the body after it has been displaced.

MORE ON Displacement :

⏩ The unit of displacement is the same as that of distance and hence displacement is given in metres .

⏩ The displacement of the body is said to be zero when there is no change in the initial and the final position of the body with respect to something else .
