Displacement is defined as the shortest distance between two points ( it is the straight line drawn connecting two points ). For example, take a man moving in a circular park of radius R. He starts from a point A and travels half the circumference to a point B. The distance he covered is pi*R but the displacement is the line AB which is the diameter, 2R. The displacement of a body is always lesser than the distance travelled by it and sometimes even be zero.
