when two progressive waves traveling in opposite direction with same velocity having same amplitude, superimpose from standing wave with the formation of anti-nodes and nodes. The particles at anti-nodes vibrates with maximum amplitude & particles are at rest at nodes and particles in between have amplitudes between maximum & zero
