A displacement reaction is the one in which a more reactive component displaces a less reactive one in a compound.
Eg:1 - Zn + CuSO4 = ZnSO4 + Cu
in this reaction zinc being more reactive than copper displaces it from copper sulphate solution to form Zinc sulphate solution and Coppet.
Eg:2- Zn + HCL = ZnCl + H2
in this reaction zinc being more reactive than hydrogen replaces it from dilute hydrochloric acid to produce zinc chloride and hydrogen gas is released
