Displacement (symbolized d or s ), also called length or distance, is a one-dimensional quantity representing the separation between two defined points. The standard unit of displacement in the International System of Units ( SI ) is the meter (m).

(a) Displacement of a body in a given time is defined as the change in the position of the body in a particular direction during that time.
(b) Displacement is a vector quantity as it possesses both magnitude and direction.
© Displacement of a body in a given time is represented by a vector drawn from the initial position to its final position.
(d) The unit of displacement is that qf length.
(e) The value of displacement can be positive, zero or negative.
(f) The value of displacement can never be greater than the distance travelled.
(g) When a moving body returns to its starting point, then its effective displacement is zero.
