Sugar and phosphate group make the backbone of the DNA whereas as nitrogenous bases are involved in the formation of base-pairs.

A gene is a functional unit of heredity. It can also be defined as the segment of DNA which codes for a particular molecule.

DNA is present as chromatin fiber in non-dividing cells.
