A POLICY LAID BY LORD DALHOUSIE ACCORDING TO WHICH THE KINGDOM OF THE INDIAN RULER IF HE DIED WITHOUT ANY NATURAL SON ND WAS NOT ALLOWED FOR ADOPTING ANY SON AS HIS SUCCESSOR.

The Doctrine of Lapse was an annexation policy purportedly devised by Lord Dalhousie, who was the Governor General for the East India Company in India between 1848 and 1856.
