Census is the statistical records and data collected in relation to population of a country. In India it is conducted every 10 years, the year 1881 being the starting year.
Under census the number of population living under different areas is marked and collected to give the union and state government a statistical display of density of population per area.
The census collection begins three years prior to announcing it.
By allotting house numbers to each house, listing of the house a layout is prepared for the same.
The second phase involves the population enumeration.
