Doris feels she works very hard. She gets angry to know that her mother, Mrs. Pearson did not get tea ready for her. She also asks her mother to iron her yellow silk. Mrs. Pearson refuses to make tea and iron her yellow silk.  

Mrs. Pearson reminds Doris that she works twice the hours she did and that too without getting any wages or thanks in return.
