The reaction in which the reactants exchange their ions and one of the insoluble product formed is called precipitate.

AB + CD → AD + CB

It is also known as precipitation reaction.

Precipitation :- The insoluble substance formed in reaction is called precipitates.

Ex:-

NaHCO3 + CH3COOH(aq) → H2CO3 + NaCH3COO

Pb(NO3)2(aq) + 2 KI(aq) → 2 KNO3(aq) + PbI2(s)

BaCl2(aq) + Na2SO4(aq) → BaSO4(s) + 2 NaCl(aq)

AgNO3 + NaCl → AgCl + NaNO3
