double displacement reaction is a reaction where both the compounds that react replace their elements to form new compounds.

example: HCl+ NaOH➡NaCl+ H2O

here, H has displaced Cl and reacted with OH to form water and Na has displaced OH to react with Cl to make new compounds.

hope this helps
