The process of fusion of male gametes with the female gametes to form the diploid zygote is called double fertilization.

The process involves two mechanism or events you can say 1. Syngamy and 2. Triple fusion :-

During the fertilization in flowering plants, pollen tube releases two male gametes so one of the two male gametez moves towards the egg cell and fuses (fertilizes) with it to form diploid zygote (2n). This process is called syngamy.

Then, the second male gamete move towards the two polar nuclei located in the central cell & fuses with it & produce triploid primary endosperm nucleus (3n) so this this called triple fusion.

The simultaneous occurrence of syngamy & triple fusion in the embryo sac is called double fertilisation.
