Double fertilization takes place in flowering plants.
The fusion of one male gamete with egg and another male gamete with secondary nucleus is called as double fertilization.
In this the fusion of one male gamete with egg results in the formation of diploid zygote which later develops into new plant.
The fusion of another male gamete with secondary nucleus results in the formation of endosperm which serves as a food for the growing zygote.

In angiospermic plants ,during fertillization there is occurence of two events..........
One is triple fusion and another event is syngamy.....
Triple fusion is fusion of two polar nuclei with one of the male gamete.....
while syngamy includes the fusion of the other male gamete with the egg to form zygote..
