Double Helix Of DNA

  • In prokaryotes, there is no well defined nucleus.

  • DNA being negatively charged is held with some proteins (polyamines) that have negative charges in a region are termed as nucleiod.

  • In eukaryotes the organisation of DNA is much more complex.

  • There is a set of positively charged basic proteins called histones.

  • A protein acquires charge due to the abundance of aminoacid residues with charged side chains.

  • The histones proteins are rich in amino acid residues lysines and arginines.

  • Both the amino acid residues carry positive charges in their side chains.
