Drift current

Covalent bond are always breaks & forms. If it breaks inside the depletion layer then hole & electron are formed.

There holes are shifted in p - side & electron are shifted towards n - side due to the electric field. hence, a net current is flowing from n - side to p - side i.e known as drift current.
