A drought is a prolonged period with less-than-average amounts of rain or snow in a particular region. The severity of the drought depends on the amount of time that a region receives below-average precipitation.

For example, a few weeks without rain could stress a farmer’s crops during the growing season.

causes of drought

* Land and water temperatures cause drought. As overall temperatures increase more water evaporates and severe weather conditions increase.

* Soil moisture levels also contribute to drought. When soil moisture is depleted there is less evaporation of water to create clouds.

effects of drought

* it leads to subsistence crises.

* drought impacts on society include anxiety or depression about economic losses, conflicts when there is not enough water, reduced incomes, fewer recreational activities, higher incidents of heat stroke, and even loss of human life.
