What is 'dry ice'? And why it is called 'dry ice'?

Dry ice is actually solid carbon dioxide.
It is called so because carbon dioxide is present in dried form and not the state when its already liquified.

it is used as a cooling agent..
It is called dry ice bcz when we melt dry ice it goes directly solid state to gas state no via liquid state ..
