Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. (Similarly to ice of water) It is called dry ice because, It goes from solid to gaseous state without going to liquid phase i.e., sublimation. Instead of (solid to liquid to gas) it goes through (solid to gas).

hope it helps..

Solid carbon dioxide is known as dry ice. Solid carbon dioxide directly gets converted into gaseous carbon dioxide by decreasing its pressure to one atmosphere without changing into liquid state. because of this reason solid carbon dioxide Is known as dry ice . I hope this answer will help you
