Dry ice is solid Carbon dioxide also referred to as "Cardice" sometimes
When pressure on any gas is increased then the space between the two molecules or atoms gets reduced. The compression of the gas makes it solid. During this process heat energy is released. Carbon dioxide is compressed to get it in solid state. This is called as dry ice. When it comes in contact with any substance it absorbs heat from that substance and forms gas again.

Hope it helped
At least this is what I know from my teachers
